Frequently Asked Questions

  • How does acupuncture work? Acupuncture is based on the theory that there exists a flow of energy, or qi throughout the body via 20 channels called meridians. Health exists if the flow of the qi is smooth. When the flow is unsmooth the body is out of balance. The goal of acupuncture is to restore the balance by utilizing a combination of acupuncture points located on the meridians.
  • Does it hurt? The acupuncture needles are made of high quality stainless steel and are solid very thin with rounded tips. Some people feel nothing at all and some describe the insertion as being similar to a mosquito bite. We use the thinnest and smoothest acupuncture needles on the market for sensitive individuals. Most people find acupuncture relaxing and may even fall asleep during a treatment.
  • Is Acupuncture safe? Acupuncture is extremely safe when performed by a trained and licensed professional. Arlington Acupuncture Associates uses individually packaged, sterile, disposable needles.
  • Is Acupuncture for you? Acupuncture can treat acute and chronic conditions. It can also prevent illness and promote health and general well being. If you would like to discover if acupuncture is right for you, please call and your question will be answered.
  • Can Acupuncture heal animals too? Certainly. Animal acupuncture has been practiced in Asia for many thousands of years. The meridians in animals are extrapolated from those in humans.
